Which Scrum certification is right for you?
The two main Scrum certification bodies — Scrum.org (founded by Ken Schwaber, co-creator of Scrum) and Scrum Alliance (the original Scrum certification body) — both produce certifications that are well respected by employers worldwide. They differ on a few practical points that matter when choosing where to invest your training budget and time:
Scrum.org |
Scrum Alliance |
||
|---|---|---|---|
| Delivery format | Classroom in Brussels Diegem or Brussels (2 full days) | Online live virtual (16 hours, scheduled sessions) | |

| Flagship certifications | PSM I, PSPO I, PSM II, PSFS, PSPBM | CSM, CSPO | |

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between a Scrum Master and a Scrum Product Owner?
The Scrum Master is responsible for facilitating the Scrum process, coaching the team on Scrum practices, and removing impediments that prevent the team from achieving its goals. The Scrum Master serves both the team and the wider organisation.
The Scrum Product Owner is responsible for defining and managing the product backlog, setting the product vision, prioritising work to maximise value, and acting as the link between stakeholders and the development team.
Scrum.org or Scrum Alliance — which certification is more valued?
Both are recognised by employers worldwide and listed in equivalent terms in most job postings. Scrum Alliance (CSM) is the older, more widely-held certification — particularly outside tech sectors. Scrum.org (PSM) is widely considered to have a more rigorous exam and is favoured in software engineering environments. In practice, the choice often comes down to delivery format (classroom vs virtual) and budget rather than employer preference.
Do I need to renew my Scrum certification?
Scrum.org certifications (PSM, PSPO, etc.) are valid for life and require no renewal. Scrum Alliance certifications (CSM, CSPO) renew every 2 years through Scrum Education Units (SEUs) and a renewal fee.
Can I take a Scrum course in-company for my team?
Yes. All our Scrum.org courses can be delivered in-company at your premises or any location of your choice, in English, Dutch or French. The Scrum Alliance courses can be delivered online virtually for your teams, in English. We can run the standard programme or tailor it to your team's specific context. Discover our in-company training or contact us for a free quote.
Are these courses eligible for Belgian training subsidies?
Yes. B2B Learning is an approved provider for KMO-Portefeuille (Flemish region), which applies to all our Scrum courses including the online virtual ones. Chèques-Formation Wallonie and Brussels training subsidies apply to our classroom instructor-led Scrum.org courses only. Learn more about subsidies.
