NIS 2 Directive Foundation Course

The PECB NIS 2 Directive Foundation training course builds a solid understanding of the NIS2 requirements and helps participants support their organizations in the early stages of planning, implementing, and managing a cybersecurity program.

Because NIS2 obligations are implemented through national legislation, this B2B Learning edition includes an essential Belgian specialisation, covering the Belgian NIS2 Law, the Centre for Cybersecurity Belgium (CCB) and its supervisory role, as well as the main national compliance frameworks — CyberFundamentals/CyFun and ISO/IEC 27001.

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

• Explain the key concepts, principles, and definitions related to the NIS2 Directive.

Day 1 — Cybersecurity & NIS2 fundamentals (Foundation)

  • CIA / CIANA (+ privacy & safety considerations)

  • Risk management essentials

  • Policies, procedures, documentation, evidence

  • PDCA cycle and continuous improvement

  • Key frameworks overview: ISO/IEC 27001 and how it structures an ISMS (high level)

NIS2 Directive overview

• NIS2 in perspective: EU regulatory landscape (and why transposition matters)

• NIS2 concepts & high-level requirements (kept concise to prioritise Belgium implementation)

Day 2 — Belgium implementation, compliance routes & practical rollout

NIS2 transposition in Belgian law (what changes in practice)

• Belgian NIS2 Law: what it is and how it transposes the EU Directive; entry into force date

• Role of the CCB (national authority / CSIRT), supervision logic, and what “good” looks like in practice 

• Obligations overview (including incident notification concepts and proportionality)

Frameworks recognised/used for compliance in Belgium

• CyberFundamentals (CyFun®): why it is recommended and how it maps to NIS2 risk-management measures 

  • Assurance levels (Basic / Important / Essential) and roadmap approach 

  • Scoping, risk analysis, control selection, evidence expectations

  • Self-assessment and external verification/certification

• ISO/IEC 27001 as an alternative/parallel route (scope + Statement of Applicability must be acceptable) 

• Conformity assessment in Belgium: verification/certification performed by accredited and authorised bodies 
  

Implementation workshop (from requirements to action plan)

  • Duration: 1 hour
  • Language: English
  • Format: 40 multiple-choice questions, closed book exam

• Credential after passing: PECB Certificate Holder in NIS 2 Directive Foundation

• Requirements: pass the exam + sign the PECB Code of Ethics (no experience requirements)

Candidates who have completed the training course but failed the exam are eligible to retake the exam once for free within a 12-month period from the initial date of the exam.
