Training objectives

The ISO/IEC 42001 Lead Implementer training provides the knowledge and practical skills needed to lead the implementation of an Artificial Intelligence Management System (AIMS) and support responsible AI governance within an organization.

By the end of the course, you will be able to:

• Understand the key concepts, principles and requirements of ISO/IEC 42001
• Interpret ISO/IEC 42001 requirements from an implementer’s perspective
• Define the scope, objectives, governance structure and implementation plan for an AIMS
• Identify and address AI-related risks, impacts and opportunities
• Implement the policies, processes and controls required for an effective AIMS
• Monitor, measure and continually improve the AI management system
• Prepare an organization for an ISO/IEC 42001 certification audit
• Prepare for the PECB Certified ISO/IEC 42001 Lead Implementer exam

This intensive course combines expert-led presentations with case studies, practical exercises, discussions, quizzes and exam preparation.

The classroom environment gives you the opportunity to ask questions, discuss implementation challenges and exchange experiences with the trainer and other professionals — particularly valuable when translating ISO/IEC 42001 requirements into your own organizational context.

Course Agenda

The course runs from approximately 09:00 to 16:30. The agenda may be adapted by the trainer according to the experience and needs of the group.

Day 1 – Understanding ISO/IEC 42001 and initiating an AIMS
Fundamental concepts and principles, ISO/IEC 42001 requirements and preparation for an AIMS implementation.

Day 2 – Planning the implementation of an AIMS
Implementation methodology, organizational context, governance, roles and responsibilities, risk and impact considerations and implementation planning.

Day 3 – Implementing the AIMS
Putting the management system into practice, establishing relevant processes and controls, managing documentation and supporting effective AI governance.

Day 4 – Monitoring, continual improvement and certification readiness
Performance evaluation, monitoring and measurement, corrective actions, continual improvement and preparation for an ISO/IEC 42001 certification audit.

Day 5 – PECB certification exam either online at a date and time of your choice; or paper-based in our offices on the day after the course.

You do not need to be an AI developer or data scientist to attend. The course focuses on the management, governance and organizational aspects of AI rather than on developing AI models.

Prerequisites

There are no formal prerequisites for attending the training. However, a basic understanding of artificial intelligence, governance or management systems will help you get the most from the course.

Previous experience with ISO management system standards, such as ISO/IEC 27001, can be useful but is not required.

PECB Certification Exam

The training prepares you for the PECB Certified ISO/IEC 42001 Lead Implementer exam, which assesses your ability to understand ISO/IEC 42001 requirements and apply them to the implementation and continual improvement of an AIMS.

The exam covers six competency domains:

• Fundamental principles and concepts of an AIMS
• ISO/IEC 42001 requirements
• Planning an AIMS implementation
• Implementing an AIMS
• Monitoring and measuring an AIMS
• Continual improvement and preparation for certification audit

Exam Format

• Exam duration: 3 hours
• Exam type: Open book, 80 Multiple-Choice Questions
• Passing Score: 70 % or more
• Certification exam: Included in the course fee
• Second attempt: Included if the 1st exam attempt is unsuccessful, subject to PECB conditions

When and where can I take the exam?

Candidates can choose the exam option that best suits them:

• Online proctored exam with PECB: take the exam remotely, at a date and time of your choice, when you feel ready. Your exam voucher, including the second attempt if needed, remains valid for up to one year.
• Paper-based exam at B2B Learning: take the exam in our training centre the day after the course, under B2B Learning supervision. If you choose this option, we recommend allowing some additional review time during the week to consolidate the concepts covered and prepare for the exam. If a second attempt is needed, the retake will be taken online with PECB remote proctoring.

Successful candidates can apply for the appropriate PECB ISO/IEC 42001 Implementer credential (included), depending on their professional and project experience.
